What are A/B/C/D weeks?
A/B/C/D weeks are labels assigned to each week within a roster period, giving every week a clear identity. Week 1 of the period is labelled A, Week 2 is B, Week 3 is C, and Week 4 is D. If a roster period extends beyond four weeks, the labels loop back to A and continue in sequence.
The A/B/C/D cycle is continuous regardless of roster period length. For example, if a two-week roster period ends on Week B, the next period will pick up at Week C. This keeps the cycle consistent across all roster periods.
Why are they useful?
A/B/C/D week labels make it easy for both rosterers and staff to quickly identify which week of the roster period they're looking at. This added clarity is especially helpful when working with longer or rotating roster periods where it can be easy to lose track of where you are in the cycle.
Rule patterns
Rule patterns define the rules your roster operates by, such as which shifts an employee can or cannot work in sequence. By tying rule patterns to A/B/C/D weeks, you can create rules that only apply to specific weeks within the cycle.
Recurring preferences and fixed shifts
Employees can set recurring preferences tied to specific weeks in the cycle, such as requesting no night shifts during Week B. Recurring fixed shifts work the same way, allowing you to lock an employee into a specific shift every time a particular week comes around.
