Shift groups explained

Where and when can you use shift groups

Shift groups are a useful tool for admin users who want to organize multiple shifts, skills, or tasks together. They can be used in rules, demands, and requests.

For example, let's say you have an 8-hour night shift (N8) and a 12-hour night shift (N12). By creating a shift group called "Night shifts" and including N8 and N12, you can easily refer to this group when setting rules, staffing levels, and making requests.

Shift Groups Properties

A shift group has the following components:

Name This is the name of the shift group. This name must be unique between shifts and shift groups and cannot be named off.

Shifts Select all the shifts that go into the shift group.

Inversed (Not Ticked by default) It can sometimes be faster to list all the shifts that are not in a shift group. For these shift groups simply change inversed to true.

A common use of this would be if an employee is required to work on a specific day, they could be given a shift group name: “On” with the shifts as “off” and inversed as “true”.

When using inversed shift groups, be aware that if “off” is not listed, then a day off will be a valid option for that shift group. This can lead to unexpected results when a rule refers to a shift group.

Tasks - Assign task(s) to a specific shift group. Leave it blank if any skill can be associated with the shift group.

Task Inversed - (Not Ticked by default) Similar to the "Inversed" column but for tasks.

Skills - Assign skill(s) to a specific shift group. Leave it blank if any skill can be associated with the shift group.

Skill Inversed - (Not Ticked by default) Similar to the "Inversed" column but for skills.

Admin Used Only - (Not Ticked by default) Tick the checkbox if you would like to restrict the visibility of the shift group from employees when they put into their preferences.
